Melanoma Metastasis and the Innate Immune System
Dr. Paul Klekotka's research interests include studying the process of melanoma metastasis. Melanoma metastasis is a complex biologic process that involves the activation of multiple gene pathways. We have used a genetic screen to identify novel genes involved in melanoma metastasis. We are currently characterizing the function of these genes.
Dr. Klekotka also studies the innate immune system in the skin. The skin serves as one of our first barriers to infection and insult. The innate immune system of our skin is vital to our ability to protect ourselves from pathogens. We are currently analyzing the role of Natural Killer (NK) cells and Toll-like receptors in inflammatory skin disorders such as contact hypersensitivity.
