History: A 3 year-old Caucasian female presented to the Washington University Dermatology outpatient clinic for easy-pluckable hairs. The child's mother complained that in day care, another child pulled clumps of hair from her child's scalp without her realizing it.
Physical Exam: On physical exam, the child had thin
blond hair(Fig. 1). A pull test resulted in 10 hairs easily pulled
from scalp without pain or discomfort to the child. The plucked
hairs were examined under the light microscope(Figs. 2, 3).
